Steviie Photo - " I Just Wanna Shoot The World. I'll Kill It Wit Dope Pics. "
Q: Introduce yourself to the world . . .
A: What's up I.N.K Culture, it's Steviie Gordan also known as Steviie Photo. I'm 22 years old from Harlem, New York. I'm currently studying photography at the City College of New York.
Q: At what age did you decide photography was for you?
A: Well I've always been into visual arts and cameras from young, but I started taking my photography and film more seriously around senior year of high school, doing mini documentary films, and taking pictures while skate boarding with friends. In college I purchased a more professional level camera and began doing more structured projects.
Q: Do you have a favorite photographer?
A: Yeah, my favorite photographer is Alex Prager. She was just in MoMA's new photography show 2010. She does these photos of scenes that look like old tv and movies, and she works with a lot of women with wigs and vintage clothing and cars.
Q: If you could have your ideal studio, what would it consist of?
A: Honestly, I would just have to have space. A whole lot of space. Enough so that I could build anything I want inside. Like the way Alfred Hitchcock built sets on sound stages, opposed to filming on-site.
Q: Weapon of choice? Why?(Camera) . . .
A: Canon 50D and I learned on a Canon so I stick with them. I'll never cross over to the Nikon side tho. Nothing against Nikon, I just like Canon. {Chuckles}
Q: Any upcoming projects in the works?
A: Yea, I have a project with painter Nik Adams, and a few things I've been working on in my home studio with using a scanner as a camera.
Q: So, has being a photographer increased your sex life?
A: {Chuckles} Let me think how I'm going to answer that; cuz I don't want my shortie getting dumb tight. . . "Has photography increased my sex life?" Umm yes. Not speaking on "offers" but I will say that it has opened me up to taking a lot more pictures before, during and after sex; Not in a porno scene, but in capturing the emotion of it all. . .
Q: Interesting answer . . . where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?
A: I really can't answer that. I don't know were I see myself in 5 years. Hopefully doing something with my art. Maybe I'll be in MoMA's "New Photography 2016 Show?" That would be pretty dope.
Q: Any last words of advice for the future generation of photographers?
A: SHOOT SHOOT SHOOT. Shoot EVERYTHING! I have pictures of everything you could imagine. The floor, the door, lights, people, etc. You have to take as much photos as you can; That's how you'll find out what really interest you the most.
